Joint School Effort in Driving Technopreneurship @ HKUST

Without doubt, technology has been increasingly revolutionizing our world and daily lives. This has also open up opportunities for technopreneurship – an emerging breed of entrepreneurship with the use of technology as an integral element in disruptive innovations or solutions for any industry.

Leveraging the wealth of research talents and outcomes at HKUST, Entrepreneurship Center (EC) and Technology Transfer Center (TTC) co-launched the Tech-Ship Program, a new platform to bridge faculty technologies with student entrepreneurship development.

As part of the Tech-Ship Program, the TECHnopreneurSHIP PITCH - Technology X Business Idea Contest was recently organized in collaboration with four Schools (Business & Management, Engineering, Science, Humanities & Social Science) to drive novel business ideas that can potentially commercialize university technologies.

The Contest attracted 32 entries at the end. The panel, composed of representatives from each School, EC, TTC and Hong Kong X-Tech, thoroughly assessed the level of creativity, business feasibility, commercialization potential and overall presentation of all pitch decks and selected the entries below as the award winners. In addition to the cash prizes, all award winners are entitled fast-tracks to various start-up funds, support services and external opportunities to further develop their proposed business plans.
